The Archives of the Holy See and of the Roman Catholicism: lectures, workshops, guided tours

Here is the call for application of the second winter seminar organized by our Institute to to propitiate the approach of the young scholars in Humanities to the knowledge and the use of the archives of the Holy See and of the Roman Catholicism, through lectures and workshops held by renowned scholars who have attended them and deeply know them, and through guided tours to the State Archives of Rome, and to the Archives of the Congregation for the doctrine of the faith, Propaganda Fide, Apostolic Penitentiary and Fabbrica di San Pietro. During the last week of the next month of January 2023, a selected group of researchers will be guided to the comprehension of the papal documents, together with the knowledge of the archives they are stored in. ‘Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History 2022’

Here is the eighth edition of the ‘Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History’, in collaboration with the Department of University and Research of the Municipality of Florence, with a judging board composed of renowned Italian and Foreign scholars. Also this year, our award is joining the ‘Premio Ricerca Città di Firenze’ and it is addressed to young Italian and Foreign researchers, offering them the possibility of publishing two books concerning the religious history  from Middle Ages to the Contemporary Era, in an inter-disciplinary and inter-religious perspective. The essays will appear in a dedicated book series of the Firenze University Press. Deadline: 1st November 2022.

The Central Archives of the Religious Orders and their Education Institutions: lectures, workshops, guided tours

We are going to restart, after the pause due to the pandemic, the appointment with our Roman weekly workshop wishing to propitiate the approach of the young scholars in Humanities to the knowledge and the use of the central archives of the religious orders and their education institutions, through lectures and workshops held by renowned scholars who have attended them and deeply know them, and through guided tours to the Historical Archives of the Dominican Friars, to the Central Archives of the Capuchins Friars, to the Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu, to the Archives of the Venerable English College and the Saint Isidore’s Irish College. From 13th to 17ht June 2022, a selected group of researchers will be guided to the comprehension of the documents, together with the knowledge of the archives they are stored in: a unique occasion for scholars involved in the history of the religious orders and more broadly in the history of Catholicism in the early modern, modern and contemporary eras. The deadline for the application is next 30th April 2022, the course will be however held when reached the number of 15 participants. For information and costs download here.

New appointment with a Roman weekly workshop wishing to propitiate the approach of the young scholars in Humanities to the knowledge and the use of the central archives of the religious orders, through lectures and workshops held by renowned scholars who have attended them and deeply know them, and through guided tours to the Historical Archives of the Franciscan Friars, to the Central Archives of the Capuchins, to the Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu, to the General Archives of the Scalabrinians and to the Central Archives of the Combonians. During the last week of the next month of June 2020, a selected group of researchers will be guided to the comprehension of the documents, together with the knowledge of the archives they are stored in: a unique occasion for scholars involved in the history of the religious orders, of their missionary actions on a global scale and more broadly in the history of Catholicism in the early modern, modern and contemporary eras. Here is the call for application to a new interesting project of our Institute: we wish to propitiate the approach of the young scholars in Humanities to the knowledge and the use of the archives of the Holy See, through lectures and workshops held by renowned scholars who have attended them and deeply know them, and through guided tours to the Vatican Secret Archives, and to the Archives of the Congregation for the doctrine of the faith, Propaganda Fide, Fabbrica di San Pietro and the Vicariate. During the third week of the next month of January 2020, a selected group of researchers will be guided to the comprehension of the papal documents, together with the knowledge of the archives they are stored in. Young Scholars Florence Fellowships 2020: the call for applications

The Sangalli Institute is glad to announce to the international community of the young researchers (included the Italians) the publication of the call for applications to the ‘Young Scholars Florence Fellowships in Religious History and Religious Studies’: three residencial monthly fellowhips (worth 2.000,00 euros each) will be offered for 2020 to international young scholars of any nationality with an adequate qualification on religious topics, privileging interdisciplinary and interreligious perspectives. Workshop call for papers ‘Entangled Knowledges. Education and Culture in Judaism, Christianity and Islam (XIVth-XIXth centuries)’

The Sangalli Institute wish to dedicate the fifth edition of its annual workshop for young researchers to the relations among the three monotheistic religions under the perspective of the education and the trasmission of culture. Thus, it will be offered 10 grants for young researchers who want to participate to the workshop “Entangled Knowledges. Education and Culture in Judaism, Christianity and Islam (XIVth-XIXth centuries)”. The participation is open to young researchers in History, History of Education, History of Arts, Philology and History of Literature, and Religious Studies.
