Eating with Hebrews

First appointment with the series ‘Religion is served. Jews, Christians and Muslims come together … eating’, launched last December: on Wednesday, 6th April 2016, at 6 pm, in our headquarters, the chief-rabbi of Florence, Joseph Levi, will give a lecture on the religious, cultural and symbolic meanings of the Jewish dishes and of their cooking way. Then, the students of the catering Institute ‘Aurelio Saffi’ of Florence will offer a tasting menu with some of those Jewish dishes. Download here the programme for more details.

Simone Weil soirée

On Tuesday 15th March, from 6 pm, Gabriella Fiori will discuss with Domenico Canciani and Maria Antonietta Vito: starring role, Simone Weil (1909-1943), the famous French writer and philosopher. The Roman editor Castelvecchi has published her ‘Viaggio in Italia’, where the love for our Country, and particularly for Florence, is the fil rouge of the book. The Florentine actress Silvia Guidi will read some fragments of the letters that Simone sent to her friend Jean Posternak and to her parents between 1937 and 1938. The ‘Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History’: the award ceremony

Next Wednesday 24th February, at 3.00 pm, in the Sala Ennio Macconi (ex-Sala Incontri) in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the award ceremony of the first edition of the ‘Sangalli Institute Award for the Religious History’ will take place: Alessandro Di Marco, with ‘Gli uomini che fecero Lourdes. Genesi e sviluppo di una devozione di massa tra letteratura e scienza’, and Samuela Marconcini, with ‘La Casa dei catecumeni di Firenze. Storia di un’istituzione per le conversioni al cattolicesimo, tra Seicento e Settecento’, will be awarded to the presence of our President Maurizio Sangalli, the President of the Firenze University Press Andrea Novelli and the Vice-Mayor of Florence Cristina Giachi, who at the same time will deliver the ‘Premio Ricerca Città di Firenze’. The two works will be published by the Firenze University Press in a new series of our Institute.

The Sangalli Institute will celebrate its first anniversary next 16th December 2015

Next Wednesday, 16th December 2015, at 5.00 pm, in our headquarters located in Piazza San Firenze 3, the President Maurizio Sangalli and our scholarship owners will illustrate the achieved outcomes and the researches in progress, one year on from the inauguration of our Institute. In honour of the occasion, the chief-rabbi of Florence Joseph Levi; don Luca Mazzinghi, professor at the Facoltà teologica dell’Italia centrale and President of Italian Biblical Association; and imam Izzeddin Elzir, President of UCOII, will be with us to present the initiative ‘Religion is served. Jews, Chistians and Muslims come together … eating’, expected for the first months of 2016. ‘Secularism and Religion in Modern Europe (XVIth-XVIIIth centuries)’. Workshop for young researchers

Here is the programme of the workshop for young researchers that our Institute will organize in Rome next 5th to 8th October 2015, in collaboration with the Escuela Española de Historia y Archeología, via di S. Eufemia 13. It is a new step in order to improve our international collaborations, focusing on some crucial aspects of the ‘building’ of Europe during the last centuries, and financially supporting young scholars. The workshop is organized by our vice-president Massimo Carlo Giannini and by Rafael Valladares as far as the Escuela.
